German Shorthaired Pointer: BREED BOX

Recognition:

The German Shorthaired Pointer is a breed of dog developed in the 1800s in Germany for hunting. This gun dog was developed by crossing an older German Pointer breed with the English Pointer to create a lean, athletic, and responsive breed.

The coat is short, thick, and harsh. The color can be liver, black, or either color with white. Commonly the head is a solid or nearly solid color and the body is speckled, with saddles or large patches of solid color.

This variety of German Pointer can be shy, and seizures have been a problem in some lines. However, it makes a good companion and has a longer life expectancy than many breeds of this size.

Mic came to me through a new marriage, my experience with the German Shorthaired Pointer breed was uncertainty. After getting to know one another I couldn't imangine a better breed than the German Pointer. Mic requires very little grooming, when she does it is usually because she rolled into something! My husband installed an underground fence and Mic is as happy as can be, the POinter does need alot of exersice. Mic will eat just about anything, although her bread and butter is limited to visits from Grandma, we feed her 2 cups daily and a few treats in between. Mic has a wonderful temperment, she has been Daddy's hunting buddy for the past 7 yrs, yet she easily adapts to being in the house as well, Mic also has learned to like her kitty sister very well.

Mic is an excellent watchdog, she knows who is suppose to be at the house and who isnot. We love the breed and are looking forward to adding another pointer to the family next year
