Havanese
The Havanese, possibly descended from either the Bolognese dogs crossed with small poodles, or Spanish owned Maltese, originated from the Western Mediterranean region around the 1600s. Political events however have led to the total disappearance of the old blood lines of the Havanese in Cuba; However, few dogs were successfully smuggled out from Cuba and their descendants have survived in the U.S.A. Havanese stands about 8 to 12 inches at the shoulders. They weight 7 to 13 pounds. The top coat is very long oft, flat or wavy and may form curly strands. Havanese don’t shed, however if you do decide to own a Havanese be prepare to dedicate some time for grooming. The long silky coat needs attention 2-3 times a week. The Havanese is gentle and intelligent. They are very good with children and make a great companion dog. They are perfect for apartment/small houses. Other Names: Bichon Havanais, Havana Silk Dog.
