Maltese dog
Once known as the Maltese Terrier, the Maltese descends from one of the most ancient dog breeds in recorded history. The then “Melita” (archaic name for Malta) were brought to Malta by Phoenician traders more than 2000 years ago. Adult Maltese range from 5 to 15 lb (2.5 to 7 kg). They are easy to train and enjoy playing. The standard type is for a straight, silky coat of hair with no under coat. Some individuals may have curly or woolly hair, but this is considered to be outside the desirable standard. Ears are heavily feathered with long hair. Daily brushing of the coat is required, however this should be done gently as the coat is very soft. The Maltese are definitely 'house dogs', prefering nothing more than to be inside the house with the company of their owners. The Maltese is a loving dog, well suited for inner city, apartment life. They are intelligent and good-natured. However this little breed is without fear and can make good watch dogs. Ideal Owners: Anyone looking for companionship Othe Names: Bichon Maltais Life Expectancy: 12-16 years Maltese Pictures
