Shih Tzu
History - The word ‘Shih Tzu’ is a Chinese word meaning ‘lion’. The origins of this breed began in the 1600s, most likely by crossing Tibetan-type dogs and ancestors of today’s Pekingese. The Shih Tzu is said to have been the oldest and smallest variety of the Tibetan ‘holy dogs’. In 1930s the Shih Tzu was imported to England and then made its way to America after WWII. Then in March 1969 the Shih Tzus were admitted to registration in the American Kennel Club Stud Book. Appearance – The Shih Tzus are sturdy, abundantly coated dogs with distinctly arrogant carriage and chrysanthemum-like face.
