Siberian Husky
History – The Siberian Husky is widely believed to have originated exclusively with the Coastal Chukchi tribes of the east-Siberian peninsula. There is evidence, however, that Siberian dogs were also imported from the Koryak and Kamchadal tribes. The Siberian Husky was developed as endurance sled dogs. In 1900s the Americans in Alaska heard of this superior breed of sled dogs and In 1909 the first team of Siberian Huskies made its first appearance in the all Alaska Sweepstakes Race. 1910 saw Charles Fox Maule Ramsay, and his team, driven by John "Iron Man" Johnson, winning the grueling 400-mile race AKC recognition of the Siberian Husky was granted in 1930 and the first AKC registered Siberian Husky was named Fairbanks Princess Chena. Appearance – Smaller than its cousin the Alaskan Malamute, the Siberian Husky is a medium-sized working dog, quick and light on his feet and free and graceful in action. His moderately compact and well-furred body, erect ears and brush tail suggest his Northern heritage. His characteristic gait is smooth and seemingly effortless. Description – Owners of the Siberian Huskies are always asked if their dog is a wolf. Indeed the Siberian Husky does look like one, in fact it is said that this domesticated breed is closest in temperament to the wolf. The Siberian temperament is outgoing, alert and clownish. Like most northern Spitz type breeds, the Siberian Husky seldom barks however they do engage in communal howling (just like wolves would do. Ideal Owners: This is not the breed for a first-time dog owner who is shy or easily embarrassed in public. Siberian Huskies are true pack animals and needs an owner who can show who is boss. They also bore easily so if you do want to own a Husky be prepared to give it plenty of exercise. Daily brushing is also vital as the Siberian Husky will shed in spectacular amounts. For those who are willing supply the exercise and time this breed requires the Siberian Husky will make a fine family pet.
